Important Note: Deadlines for adding, dropping, and withdrawing from summer courses, along with the refund dates for these actions, are posted with each course in the Schedule of Classes. Be aware that each course has different dates and deadlines. To view these deadlines, go to and find the course, then click on the CRN of the course (the five-digit number that is underlined) to get to the detail page about the course.

March 7 Course offerings for summer available
May 5-9 Initial registration for summer (includes CEP students)
June 16-20 Pre-session week classes
June 23 • Summer classes begin
• Financial aid refunds first become available
June 27 - August 4 Fall registration is closed to continuing students; DuckWeb registration system reopens August 5
July 1 Summer 2014 tuition due (assessed tuition, plus current and past-due balance)
July 4 Independence Day holiday; no classes held
July 18 End of first session of four-week courses
July 20 Last day to apply for Summer 2014 undergraduate degrees in DuckWeb
August 1 Doctoral final oral defense applications due in the Graduate School (see Oral Defense Procedures)
August 5 Fall registration re-opens at 8:00am
August 14-15 Final Exams for courses meeting the first eight weeks of summer session and the second four weeks of summer session are held per the Summer Final Exam Schedule
August 15 • End of first eight-week courses
• End of second session of four-week courses
• Last day to submit Master's Statement of Completion to the Graduate School
August 16 Summer session graduation commencement
August 22 Hold final oral defense of doctoral dissertations (see Oral Defense Procedures)
September 1 • Labor Day holiday; no classes held
• Last day to submit Doctoral/Masters theses and dissertations to the Graduate School
• Last day to submit Doctoral Certificates of Completion to the Graduate School
September 5 End of eleven-week courses
September 9 (Tuesday, noon) Final deadline for all summer grades

Note about Summer grades: in most cases, instructors are expected to submit grades within a reasonable time after their classes end; e.g., classes that end on a Friday should be submitted during the following week, preferably by Tuesday. Some departments may state earlier deadlines to facilitate pre-requisite checking for summer sequences.
