Generated UO ID Numbers Conversion

Background

In the summer of 2002, the UO Administration decided to begin using generated identification numbers and stop the practice of using the student or employee's Social Security Number (SSN) for UO identification. Generated UO ID numbers are nine-digit numbers beginning with "950;" the number appears on the UO ID card.

During 2003, all students new to the university were assigned a generated UO ID number. That same year, faculty and staff ID numbers were converted. Beginning January 2004, students still using SSNs as ID numbers were invited via e-mail to obtain a new UO ID number and ID card from the UO ID Card Office.

Student ID Conversion Instructions

All students who are still using their SSN as their ID number are strongly encouraged to visit the ID Card Office as soon as possible to obtain a new UO ID number and ID card. The deadline for changing is December 17th, 2004. Beginning in January 2005, the UO will begin converting all remaining SSN's to UO ID numbers. The process will be completed during winter 2005 term.

The UO Card Office is responsible for converting ID numbers and issuing new photo ID cards. Visit the ID Card Office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge for this process if you turn in your current ID card at the time you get your new one. Replacement cost for a lost ID card is $15.

Students who have a meal plan and/or residence hall access will also need to visit their area desk or the Office of University Housing to activate the new card. Housing is open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The new UO ID Card is effective immediately for the following services:

  • DuckWeb
  • Campus Cash
  • PARS
  • LTD

Libraries: Students' library accounts will be updated within two weeks. Checking out books and journals will not be an issue during this period, since the previous ID number can still be used. Another option is for students to take their new ID card to a checkout desk for an instant update.
