Course Numbers

Information about course numbers can be found in the Reader’s Guide to the Catalog. Departments who want to search for an available regularized course number can use CourseLeaf CIM. Enter the subject code in a new course proposal and select the “Course Numbers in Use” button.

Experimental Courses

Faculty and instructors may develop experimental courses to teach innovative content while they assess student engagement and interest before fully embedding a course across disciplines. Departments can offer an experimental course up to three times before the course must be approved for a regularized course number.

Once instructors are ready for the course to become permanent, they should submit a course proposal in CourseLeaf CIM to regularize the course into the catalog.

Generic Courses

Generic courses may be repeated for credit under the same number.

Multi-Listing Courses

Multi-listed courses are offered under two subject codes and can be identified by the M suffix on the course number. Multi-listed course policies are on the Office of the Provost site.

Multi-listed courses can be offered under a temporary course number one time before they must be approved through the course proposal process for a regular multi-listed number.
