Last Date of Attendance/Participation
When entering an F or N grade, "Last Date of Attendance/Participation" is now required.
The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (OSFAS) processes approximately $180,000,000 in federal student aid for UO students each academic year. As a part of our Program Participation Agreement with the Department of Education (ED), UO agrees to award these funds in compliance with Title IV regulations.
One of these regulations requires students to meet all eligibility requirements at the time of aid disbursement. This includes student enrollment and participation in all courses for which he/she receives Title IV aid. When a student withdraws from one or all courses during the term or if the student is awarded a non-passing grade (F or N), as an institution, we are required to document that the student did participate in any or all courses for which he/she received Title IV aid, and to document the last day that the student attended/participated.
The Office of the University Registrar has created functionality in Duckweb for instructors to enter a last date of attendance (LDA) or the date of the last academically-related activity during online grade submission for any student who does not earn a passing grade in a course (F or N). Collecting this information in a systematic way will ensure that UO has a central store of documentation of participation, and the last date of attendance for students. This will also ensure that OSFAS staff has ready access to this data, and can perform Title IV recalculations in an accurate and timely manner. This grading functionality is effective beginning the winter term of 2014.
Entering Last Date of Attendance (LDA) in DuckWeb
- Click on the Faculty Menu.
- Click on the Course Administration Center Menu.
- Select "Enter Grades" from the Action Menu and click "Go."
- Enter your grades.
- For each "F" or "N" grade, enter an LDA in this format: MM/DD/YYYY.
- The LDA must be between the first day of the term and the current date.
- Click "Submit Completed Roster" when you are finished entering all grades on your roster; a confirmation screen will indicate if there is a missing grade or LDA.
LDA is required only for F or N grades. If a student never attended, assign F or N (according to student's grade mode), and check the "Never Attended" box . The LDA will auto-fill with the day before term started. Do not change it. (Note: effective fall 2017, the "Y" grade is discontinued.)
If your roster has multiple pages, you can enter grades on all pages, but you cannot submit the roster until you enter an LDA for non-passing grades (F or N).

If you do not enter the LDA for F or N grades, DuckWeb will not allow you to submit your roster. When you save the roster, messages will appear in the LDA column indicating the LDA is required.
If you enter a date prior to start of term for an F or N grade
If you enter incorrect dates, DuckWeb will display the date range you should use for LDA. You cannot submit your roster until you correct the error. Make sure to use the correct date format (MM/DD/YYYY).
Submitting your grade roster
DuckWeb will not allow you to submit your grade roster if there are any F or N grades without an LDA.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to record LDA for all grades?
No, you must record LDA only for F or N grades, to comply with federal regulations governing Title IV aid.
Why doesn’t DuckWeb accept my LDA?
- LDA must be entered in this format: MM/DD/YYYY.

- If you check the "Never Attended" box, the LDA will default to the day before the term began. This is correct. You cannot change it.
What if a student never attended my class but is still on my grade roster?

What if I don’t know the student’s LDA?
There are several ways to determine a student's LDA. Participation is the relevant factor. For example, logging onto Blackboard alone is not sufficient. Here are some approved examples:
- Physically attending a class where there is opportunity for interaction with the instructor
- Submitting an academic assignment
- Taking an exam or quiz
- Taking an interactive tutorial or computer-assisted instruction
- Participating in an online discussion about academic matters
- Making entries on a Journal or class blog
- Contacting the instructor to ask a question about the academic subject in a course
Can I upload LDA from Blackboard or a spreadsheet?
Not at this time. You can still upload grades as usual, however, you must manually enter LDA after uploading your grades into DuckWeb.
