Summer Engagement Hours

The tables below breaks down how many contact hours or scheduled seat time a summer undergraduate or graduate level class should have based on the duration and number of credits that the course is offered for.

Look for the number of credit hours that a class that the course is offered for in the first column. The number of expected contact or engagement hours for that number is determined by the length of the class.

Note: this chart focuses solely on courses that meet for four weeks or less. A four credit hour class at the undergraduate level requiring a 120 hours of student engagement cannot be taught in a 1 week compressed format.
