The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires higher education institutions to protect student privacy. We support our students by sharing more about their rights and upholding our institutional student privacy responsibilities.
Student Rights
All students who have attended the University of Oregon have rights regarding their education records.
FERPA allows all University of Oregon students to:
- Inspect and review their records.
- Request amendment of their records which they believe are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights.
- Restrict the disclosure of Directory Information.
- File a complaint with the Department of Education's Family Policy Compliance Office if they believe that the university has failed to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
Employee Responsibilities
Faculty and staff are crucial partners for the Office of the Registrar. All employees with access to student education records are legally responsible for protecting the privacy of students.
