Class Standing and Academic Progress

Class Standing

Undergraduate class standing is determined by the total number of credits a student has earned, UO coursework, and transfer work that has been processed. Class standing is used to determine eligibility for some classes, registration start times, financial aid awards, etc.

  • Freshmen: 0.00 - 44.99 credits
  • Sophomores: 45.00 - 89.99 credits
  • Juniors: 90.00 - 134.99 credits
  • Seniors: 135.00 credits or more

Academic Progress

The University of Oregon requires that undergraduate students maintain a 2.00 or higher (term and cumulative) GPA to be in good standing. Good standing means that students are making normal academic progress toward a degree. When students do not meet this requirement, the Scholastic Review Committee may place students on warning, probation, or disqualify them from studying at the university.

Full information about academic standing is available in the UO catalog.

Graduate students must maintain a 3.00 to make Satisfactory Progress. More information is available from the Division of Graduate Studies.
