Prerequisites
Some courses require prior knowledge in order to register for the course. At University of Oregon, if a student has not earned credit for prerequisite courses, the student should not be able to register for the advanced course.
- If students have questions about enrolling in courses without the prerequisites, they should contact the department offering the course.
- In some cases, a standardized test score will satisfy a prerequisite for WR 121z. See the Composition Program website for more information.
- Information about specific prerequisites for courses are available in DuckWeb when registering for classes.
Course Regression
The general limitations for a bachelors degree can be found in the University of Oregon Catalog. General limitation number eleven says, "Student may not receive credit for courses that are designated by the department as regressive prerequisites for courses in which they are currently enrolled or have already received credit."
We've listed additional guidance to help you understand the rules, but we encourage you to contact an academic advisor if you have questions about which courses you may take.
You may also look up a course in our table to check if you're eligible to earn credit.
Course Order
Course order matters. If a student takes a course and earns credit, they should not take a lower-level course of the same subject matter.
For example, if a student has earned credit for SPAN 201, they should not take SPAN 101, SPAN 102, SPAN 103, SPAN 111, and SPAN 112. The courses are lower-level courses, and the student would not be making academic progress towards their degree.
You may check the table to confirm which courses will not earn you credit.
