Students may be recognized for academic excellence and receive Latin or departmental honors. Honors will be added to students’ transcripts and their diplomas when their degree is awarded.
Latin Honors
Graduating students may be eligible for receiving Latin honors.
- Latin honors are based on cumulative GPA and require students to have completed all degree requirements and have earned at least ninety credits in residence at the University of Oregon.
- Latin honors are computed during graduation processing, before degrees are conferred. The Latin honors cumulative GPA levels for each academic year are determined by rounding the previous five-year running average to the first decimal point.
- Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible for Latin honors.
The GPAs for each level of honors for the current academic year are as follows:
- Summa: must be 4.00 or higher
- Magna: must be between 3.90 and 3.99
- Cum: must be between 3.80 and 3.89
Departmental Honors
Some departments award departmental honors to students who meet specific requirements set by the department. Please see your major department to inquire about departmental honors requirements.
