Last Date of Attendance or Participation

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (OSFAS) processes approximately $200,000,000 in federal student aid for UO students each academic year. As a part of our Program Participation Agreement with the Department of Education (ED), UO agrees to award these funds in compliance with Title IV regulations.

One of these regulations requires students to meet all eligibility requirements at the time of aid disbursement. This includes student enrollment and participation in all courses for which they receive Title IV aid. When a student withdraws from one or all courses during the term or if the student is awarded a non-passing grade (F or N), as an institution, we are required to document that the student did participate in any or all courses for which they received Title IV aid, and to document the last day that the student attended/participated.

In DuckWeb, last date of attendance is required for grades of F or N.

Duckweb includes the functionality for instructors to enter a last date of attendance (LDA) or the date of the last academically-related activity during online grade submission for any student who does not earn a passing grade in a course (F or N). Collecting this information in a systematic way will ensure that UO has a central store of documentation of participation, and the last date of attendance for students. This will also ensure that OSFAS staff has ready access to this data and can perform Title IV recalculations in an accurate and timely manner.

  • When entering an F or N grade, the last date of attendance or participation is required.
  • LDA must be in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  • LDA must be between the first day of the term and the current date.

Never Attended

For students who never attended or participated in your class, assign F or N as appropriate and check the Never Attended checkbox. The LDA will default to the day before the term began.

Determining the LDA

There are several ways to determine a student's LDA. Participation is the relevant factor. For example, logging onto Canvas alone is not sufficient. Here are some approved examples:

  • Physically attending a class where there is opportunity for interaction with the instructor
  • Submitting an (academic) assignment or project
  • Taking an exam or quiz
  • Taking an interactive tutorial or computer-assisted instruction
  • Participating in an online discussion about academic matters/the course content
  • Making entries on a journal or class blog
  • Contacting the instructor to ask a question about the academic topic in a course

Uploading Grades

Upload grades as usual. You will manually enter the LDA on the grade roster in DuckWeb.
