Contact Hours
Credit hours are determined by the amount of classroom hours and additional out of class work. Detailed information about how credit hours should be determined is available from the Provost's Office website Credit and Student Time Commitment.
Course Fees
You can run course fee reports in Banner (SWREGRP) to see what fees are assigned to your department's CRNs.
- All course fees must be approved by Budget and Resource Planning.
- Fees must be added before the schedule is published.
If you need to add or remove an approved fee to a class, contact Academic Scheduling at sched@uoregon.edu.
Course Meeting Times
We split class meeting times into five zones with one hour and fifty minute time blocks. Zone two has two time blocks.
Zone | Time | % of courses for this area |
---|---|---|
Zone One | 8:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. | 20% |
Zone Two | 10:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. | 40% |
Zone Three | 2:00 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. | 25% |
Zone Four | 4:00 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. | 15% |
Zone Five | 6:00 p.m. or later | optional scheduling |
As indicated, each department and school must spread their courses throughout the week and different time zones.
Guidance for Course Meeting Times
- Courses should meet during established time zones.
- Courses that meet longer than two hours must be scheduled Monday through Thursday in zones three, four, or five, or on Fridays.
- Classes that meet twice per week for eighty minutes must begin in the first hour of the time zone. The only exception is that classes in zone one may begin at 8:30 a.m. rather than 8:00 a.m. and zone four where classes may begin at 5:30 p.m.
- Department controlled spaces may be scheduled anytime, including zone two. Joint-control classrooms cannot be scheduled anytime.
- Departments may schedule 600-level graduate courses as a block across time zones in their own department-controlled classroom.
- In general pool and joint-controlled classrooms, discussions or labs must be scheduled outside of zone two. The exception is Fridays, when discussions or labs may be scheduled throughout the day.
- Non-credit sections are scheduled after all credit classes are assigned a room.
Instructors of Record
Academic Scheduling activates instructors of record based on weekly reports from Human Resources. If you have a graduate employee who needs to be activated as an instructor of record to be added to a CRN, please notify Academic Scheduling. The full instructors of record policy is on the Office of the Provost website.
